Voisins du Zero
This bet covers the 17 numbers closest to the zero on the wheel. It requires nine betting
units and because some bets are split between more than one number, it pays out different
amounts depending on which number hits.
Tiers du Cylindre
This bet covers 12 numbers roughly opposite the green zero on the wheel. It requires six
betting units. Each unit is split between two numbers so the payout on a winner is always
17 to 1.
Orphelins
This bet includes the eight remaining numbers that aren't covered in the Voisins du Zero
and Tiers du Cylindre bets. It requires five betting units that are split among the eight
numbers. This bet puts a straight bet on the number 1 while all other units are split
between two numbers with overlapping bets on number 17.
Neighbors
This bet puts a straight bet on one number plus straight bets on the two numbers on either
side of your chosen number on the wheel. It requires five betting units and since it
only uses straight bets, the payout on a winner is always 35 to 1.
There are two other big differences in the French version of the game and they're important to
understand because they actually improve the player's odds of winning.
La Partage
If you have a bet on black, red, odd, or even and the ball lands on zero, the casino will
give you back 50% of your bet.
En Prison
Similar to La Partage, the En Prison rule kicks in when the ball lands on zero and you have
a bet on a color or odd/even. The dealer will place a marker on your bet and if it wins on
the next spin, it's returned to you.

Covering the board
Covering the board, also called covering the table, is a strategy that involves putting bets on the vast
majority of numbers. Since only a few numbers can give you a loss, this system definitely results in
winning a little bit on almost every spin. The downside is that since betting on so many numbers requires
a big outlay of money when you do lose you lose big.
The most popular way to cover the board is to bet nine units on Low (1-18), six units on the 3rd Dozen,
and two units on the 19-20-22-23 corner. This strategy leaves just three numbers uncovered. If zero,
21 or 24 hits, you lose all your bets. If any other number hits you win one unit.
Martingale
- Start with a relatively small bet.
- If you win, bet the same amount again.
- If you lose, double your bet.
- Continue doubling your bet after each loss until you win and show a small profit.
Intuitively people believe they can't lose very many even-money bets in a row and
that eventually they'll win and show a small profit. That belief is wrong and it's
the reason this betting system shouldn't be taken lightly.
It's true that if you could keep doubling your bet forever, the Martingale would guarantee
a profit.
In reality, it results in lots of small wins and some rare but catastrophic losses.
That's because in real life there are factors that will stop you from doubling your
bet indefinitely. First, games have maximum bets. Second, you don't have an infinite
